A choosing the most appropriate forum
This page is part of the ComMetrics University – FAQ section of our services, which includes:
- the FAQ about Xing SM Monitoring group, A choosing the most appropriate forum (you are here), B effective searching, C using RSS feed, D using Twitter and Facebook,
and the FAQ about webinars.
I have to thank Tim Grier for this post since he pointed out that for a newbie to our group, it is not necessarily very easy to figure out quickly if, or how, one should post a new discussion item or comment:
===> Tim Grier wrote we need an FAQ for new SM Monitoring members – great suggestion that is
So thank you Tim for raising this issue. In response I prepared the Q&A section listed below. Please share your feedback by leaving a comment (anything missing, incorrect, etc.). Thanks in advance.
1) SHOULD I POST THIS?
Generally, if it is about social media and monitoring (i.e. metrics, web analytics, benchmarking, ROI, etc.) it is probably of interest to our members.
2) WHERE SHOULD I POST IT?
Of course, right after deciding that it is appropriate content for this group, the question is where or in which forum does this fit?
Why not click on the link below and read each forum’s description which makes it easier to figure out which forum is the most appropriate one for your content. Go ahead, look at it

If you are still uncertain, you can put something into the Suggestions, Ideas, Feedback forum and I or any other co-moderator can then move it to a more appropriate forum if there is one. Give it a try pls.

3) SHOULD I WRITE A COMMENT?
So you came across this great post about counting pageviews on Facebook and Twitter and you want to share this information with the group.
Following the link given under POINT 2 above, you may discover that it does not fit the TOOLS forum. However, since it discusses some tools or social media channels and how to measure these things, it might fit nicely into the forum entitled:
FREE Resources – Checklists, Presentations, White Papers, SM Policies
===> http://www.xing.com/net/smmetrics/free-resources-checklists-presentations-white-papers-sm-policies-436217/
PLEASE remember, it is not necessary to post the whole blog entry again in here. Just post:
- a) summary (e.g., 30-100 words about the content),
b) your thoughts or interpretation or feelings about the material (e.g., another couple of sentences would be helpful to others), AND
c) 1 or 2 questions pertaining to the blog post, white paper, tool or whatever, encouraging members to leave a comment (e.g., ask them what their opinion is or if they agree with your interpretation, etc.)
4) SHOULD I RESPOND TO A COMMENT MADE HERE?
Some of us prefer to just leave a comment on a post instead of starting a new thread about something. Sometimes I feel the comments made for one of the threads I started add much more value than I originally did when starting the thread itself.
No kidding, the comments added to the original post can really spice things up and add value..
Commenting is a great way to ask the person that started the discussion about more information, share your feelings, ideas, insights with the group members. In turn, we can all learn much more than we could from a single discussion item that did not get any comments!!!
Everybody would like to get feedback on his or her discussion item or thread. For instance, we moderators try to welcome every single person that writes a short introduction about themselves. PS. Have you done yours yet? Pls do so now: We love to know more about you:

PLEASE SHARE your thoughts about this Q&A.
If I have missed anything important or you disagree or agree with what I wrote, please leave a comment.
Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to be with us. We feel priviliged to have you as a group member. Merci bien.
THANK YOU for all posting so DILIGENTLY.
Remember, just look at the many great examples of what can be posted.
Most importantly, try to respond to questions, provide FEEDBACK, your ideads, feelings, opinions, insights matter. We love to hear from you – it makes a real difference to all of us.
